Nightclubs in Glasgow
Nights out in Glasgow are definitely something to shout about as there are well over 100 bars, pubs and clubs to choose from. Obviously that’s far too many to include in one pub crawl and that’s where our list of the best venues comes in handy.
The first of the main areas for a great night out in Glasgow is the City centre with venues ranging from alternative rock clubs like The Cathouse to romantic and sophisticated Mediterranean bars such as Artá. Secondly, Merchant City is an area within the Glasgow’s City centre, comprised of a series of streets lined with shops, cafés, restaurants, bars, pubs, theatres and nightclubs.
The West End is said to be the most exciting area in the whole of Glasgow for nights out, teeming with students during the University year and of course Glaswegian locals. Glasgow has come along way in the way of nightlife in the past ten years and it’s not an area to be put on the backburner. Wherever you go this City is guaranteed to give you and your buddies a stellar night out.
City Centre
Home to the world’s tallest cinema (yes, you read that correctly), Glasgow’s City centre is the place to be on a Friday or Saturday night with clubs such as ABC, Art School and Arches and bars such as Babbity Bowster and Blackfriars. Buchanan Street A.K.A ‘The Golden Z’ is two miles of bars, clubs, theatres, music venues, shops and restaurants etc. right in the heart of the city centre and is one of the busiest parts of Glasgow on a night out. Also, just over the bridge from the City Centre live music enthusiasts can find the Glasgow Carling Academy.

Merchant City
This shopping, socialising and entertainment wonderland is located just five minutes walk from Argyle Street Rail Station and about ten minutes walk from the main shopping streets in Glasgow’s City Centre. Here you can find the winner of the Scotland’s Best Music Bar 2008 Theme award, also known as ‘Maggie Mays’ and cosy bars such as Bar Square along with around 26 other bars, cafés, restaurants and pubs. There’s also a nightclub to suit every taste and visitors can have a choice of 8 venues, from the underground Byblos club with its live music, to the sophisticated Winchester Club on Bell Street.
The West End
If you walk out of the city centre and go through the underground which takes you past the M8 then you will be greeted by Glasgow’s West End; a maze of night time entertainment including the Aragon, Brel and Jinty McGuinty’s bars. One of the most unique bars in the West End of Glasgow is the Oran Mor Brasserie and Conservatory; a bar, club and restaurant that was once a church. Just round the corner from here is ‘Vodka Wodka’; a cutting edge Vodka bar on Ashton Lane which regularly draws in large crowds of young vodka worshippers.
